Why We Refuse to Charge $90 for a Jar

Most of what you pay for in luxury skincare is packaging, marketing, and middlemen — not ingredients. Here is how we keep prices honest without cutting corners.

Walk into any department store beauty hall and you will see jars priced at $90, $120, even $300. The honest truth: in most of those bottles, the raw ingredients cost a few dollars. The rest is the box, the marble counter, the magazine ad, the celebrity face, and the four middlemen between the lab and your bathroom shelf.

We started Pure Sea because that math felt broken. Clean, effective skincare should not be a luxury. It should be the default.

Where the money actually goes

A typical prestige skincare product spends roughly 10% of its retail price on what is inside the bottle. The rest goes to packaging, retail margin, distributor margin, brand markup, and marketing. By the time the product reaches you, the formula is often the cheapest part.

We flipped that ratio. Our formulas are the most expensive part of every bottle we ship.

What we cut instead

We cut the heavy glass, the secondary box, the celebrity contract, the retail markup, and the distributor chain. We ship directly from our facility to you, in recyclable packaging that protects the formula without pretending to be a piece of art.

That is how a serum with the same active concentrations as a $90 jar can sit on our site at a fraction of the price — and still leave us with a fair margin to keep the lights on.

Honest, not cheap

Honest pricing is not the same as cheap. We will never compromise an active ingredient to hit a lower price point. If a formula needs a premium extract, it gets it. If a cheaper filler would weaken the result, it gets left out. The price you see is what it actually costs to make a product worth using, plus a fair margin — not the maximum the market will tolerate.
